Choosing is hard. And nonetheless, it’s something we have to do each and every day. From the clothes we put on in the morning to the dessert we eat at night, everything is a choice. Some more important than others. Imagine you’ve only got the time and budget for one holiday a year. How do you choose where to go? How do you make sure to get the most out of your trip? And how do you manage to stay flexible enough to be able to slightly change your plans if necessary? Enter, the road trip.
The road trip has been popular for ages. Even centuries ago, wealthy men and women used to make long trips visiting several cities in a row. And they might not have called it a road trip but it certainly would have classified as one. In more recent times, we tend to associate road trips with long car rides, good music and a bag full of snacks “just in case”. It’s the perfect way to see a lot of a country or region, all while staying flexible and independent. Yet even though this kind of travel offers you more, you still have to make a choice. Which itinerary to choose? Where to go? What to see?
Less crowds, more fun
Of course, while choosing, you can look at some of the more obvious choices out there. Route 66 might well be the most famous one when it comes to road tripping, while the Atlantic Route in Iceland is a good choice to. Sadly, there’s one big downside to those popular itineraries: things tend to get crowded. Meaning not just that your ride might be a little less pleasant but also that it might be very necessary to book your overnight stays ahead. Which, in its turn, makes you less flexible.
Thankfully, there are alternatives out there. Routes which are less popular amongst the crowds, yet not necessarily less spectacular. Itineraries bringing you back to basics, with all the freedom and adventure that you associate with a road trip. And to make your life a little easier, Confused.com made a list with the world’s most underrated road trips. There’s something on there for everyone so make sure to save this one to your favorites!
